Donation targeted to their food distribution program. Dorcas gets food items near the expiration date from local stores for distribution, they buy food from Care and Share, and they supplement with donations of actual food items.
Cuchara Valley Christian Community Services, CVCCS
Glyn Ramsey of Mountain View Baptist is currently heading the organization. They meet quarterly and Eleanor is our representative. CVCCS is primarily a service organization comprised of valley churches to provide year round financial and other help for those with emergency needs in the community. Examples might be vouchers for gas for those stranded, help with propane and electricity, and help with essential home repairs.

The Outreach Committee packed six backpacks with school supplies required by teachers: for grades K-6. We will also support the needs of the music program and respond when notified to a child’s one-time emergency.
St. Benedict Scholarships- We gave 3 scholarships to worthy La Veta graduates and have plans to continue this encouragement of our community scholars in honor of Van Muhn. Contact person would be Eleanor Foley, Wanda Hunter, or Susan Simons.
Sangre de Cristo Hospice – Huerfano - AnnaLee –738-3341- in the Walsenburg office of Hospice is coordinating the new grief therapy program for youth. Equine-Assisted Grief Therapy is for ages 11-20 in Huerfano County. The program reaches out to any teen that has experienced a traumatic event such as a car accident, death of a family member or friend. Journey Home is donating their time and facility for the program. The program is new and will have its first session in July. It is a three-week program, one day a week. The charge is $50 for each day. Teens who can’t afford the cost are given scholarships. Sessions will run every other month with a break in the winter.
Journey Home www.journeyhomelearningcenter.org Deb Williams is a trained horse therapist. Journey Home serves youth, accepts troubled kids, offers services free if a family cannot pay. Founded in 1996 in rural Southern Colorado, Journey Home, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to changing lives for the better through education, adventure and service. Journey Home's main facility is located near the base of the Spanish Peaks in southern Colorado and at 1018 W 7th St., Walsenburg, CO 81089. This is the headquarters for indoor horsemanship classes, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurship classes. It is also the home of Adventure Trail, a working, hands-on retail shop where students have the opportunity to participate in the every day activities of a functioning business.
Sangre de Cristo Hospice – Pueblo - Noelle Fiorenzi -- 719-542-0032 for Kids Kamp out of Pueblo. Kids Kamp -- The overnight children's bereavement camp addresses the special needs of grieving children ages 6 to 12. It is offered at no cost. Children learn ways to cope with their grief through workshops and activities, building skills that may help them now and throughout their lives. Grief workshops are balanced with recreation activities, such as horseback riding, ropes course challenges and bowling, so the children feel free to have fun and just be kids.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, announced on January 25, 2010 an unprecedented effort to identify the genetic changes that give rise to some of the world’s deadliest childhood cancers. The team has joined forces to decode the genomes of more than 600 childhood cancer patients, who have contributed tumor samples for this historic effort.
St. Jude is home to one of the world’s largest and most complete repositories of biological information about childhood cancer. The collection dates to the 1970s and includes more than 50,000 tumors, bone marrow, blood and other biological samples. The collaboration focuses on childhood leukemias, brain tumors and tumors of bone, muscle and other connective tissues called sarcomas.

The ER&D Online Store offers gifts for life such as a purchase of bees for honey, a goat, a pig, trees, a family garden, a well and water system. For 2011, the Outreach committee chose to fund the Roving Health Clinics. These clinics offer critical care wherever it’s needed. For many families, the nearest health facility may be 100 miles away. The gift provides essential health services, immunizations and medicines that reach people wherever they may be.
